Number of abortions: 11,458

* Abortions on Indiana Residents: 10,936 (95.4%)
* Counties which have abortion clinics: Allen, Lake, Marion, Monroe, St. Joseph
* 10,966 (95.7%) were performed in clinics, the other 492 (4.3%) were performed in hospitals
* 70 were performed on girls between the ages of 10-14

* the majority were performed on women under 24 years of age (comprising 51.1%)
* 100 abortions were performed on babies between 16-20 weeks gestation (4-5 months)

St. Joseph County: 731 abortions

* 55.5% were performed on women between 20-29 years of age
* 4 were performed on girls 10-14

United States in 2002

*In 2002, 1.29 million abortions took place, down from an estimated 1.36 million in 1996.
* From 1973 through 2002, more than 42 million legal abortions occurred.
* 88% of abortions occur during the first 6 to 12 weeks of pregnancy.
* 60% of abortions are performed on women who already have one or more children.
* 47% of abortions are performed on women who have already had one or more abortions.

Black women are more than 3 times as likely as white women to have an abortion, and Hispanic women are 2 1/2 times as likely

54% of women having abortions used a contraceptive method during the month they became pregnant. 76% of pill users and 49% of condom users reported using the methods inconsistently, while 13% of pill users and 14% of condom users reported correct use.
*5.7% of abortions are performed after 16 weeks (1.4% of these are after 21 weeks, or five months)
